Steenbergs Organic Beetroot Powder is one of our more colourful ingredients and should certainly be handled with care unless you wish to end up pink. Organic beetroot powder is as simple as it sounds - organic red beetroot is cleaned, peeled and dried, then ground down into a fine powder. It is not as richly red coloured as the fresh root vegetable, but is still a deep, purple in colour and has a sweet and pleasant flavour that does not impact the overall taste of the dish.
Organic beetroot powder is used as a natural colouring and is especially effective for tandoori and tikki masala recipes, where it gives you some of that red colour without resorting to nasty chemicals. We also incorporate it into Laura Santtini's Carnal Sin blend to complement the other reds from pink peppercorns, rose petals and sumac to create a sensuos colour palette. For a healthier tandoori or tikka recipe, substitute any colouring with organic beetroot powder or for Steenbergs Chicken Tikka Curry recipe, you add ½tsp organic beetroot powder into the red marinade and then the tikka sauce.
