Steenbergs Organic Berbere is the very hot, curry-style spice mix used in Ethiopian cooking.  Steenbergs Organic Berbere Spice Mix has a coarse earthy texture with a pungent flavour - given some fragrance by organic thyme , organic cumin and organic allspice - and plenty of spicy, red hot chilli heat. Traditionally, you would use long pepper for the peppery spice notes, but (as organic long pepper has intermittent supply) Steenbergs Organic Ethiopian Berbere uses organic black pepper powder. You can use Steenbergs Organic Ethiopian Berbere either as a dry paste or mix with a little water to make into a curry paste.

As with all Steenbergs artisan spice blends this organic ethiopian berbere has been created and blended at the Steenbergs spice factory in rural North Yorkshire, just north of the cathedral city of Ripon. Steenbergs specialises in organic and fairly traded spices.
