Dal Without Water

Ingredients

What to do

  1. Wash and soak split beans overnight. Drain. Add some salt to beans. Heat the ghee. Add whole red chillies, when they turn black remove ghee from fire and cool a bit. Mix all remaining ingredients with sliced onions. Spread evenly over the ghee. Then over the onions spread the beans. Do not stir. Do not add water.
  2. Close the pan with tight seal, eg with pastry. On low heat cook for 1½ hours. Before serving, take the beans to separate pan without onions (which are to be discarded) and stir beans with ghee.
