Steenbergs Inca Pink Salt comes from Peru.  It is sometimes called Inca Salt or more properly Sal Rosa de Maras as it comes from the town of Maras in the Peruvian Andes, the ancient centre of salt making from even prior to the Inca.  Inca salt has gorgeous irregular chunky pieces with a creamy-pink colour rather than a true pink as with Steenbergs Himalayan salt.  Its flavour is tart and slightly sweet, with a clay-like mineralness to it.

Sal rosa de Maras comes from a natural mountain spring that nestles and gurgles some 3,000 metres high (10,000 feet) up in the Peruvian Andes.  The spring water is warm and flows out of the Qaqawinay Mountain, from where it is diverted through channels into several thousands of little terrraced salt ponds, where the salt is evaporated and the salt skimmed just as if it were a sea salt in Normandy.  Pink Inca salt has some moisture to it and a light off white pinky colour and a earthy and mild sweetness to it.

How to use: try it with beef or venison steaks, or how about substituting kosher salt in Ingrid Hoffman's Peruvian Beef Saltado recipe or adding some class to Easy Garlic Mushrooms?

Steenbergs Inca Pink Salt forms part of our range of dry ingredients, including organic peppercorns, organic chillis, organic herbs, organic spices and organic seasoning blends.  Steenbergs also packs and retails organic teas and organic hot chocolates.  For more information, please call us on 01765 640 088 or email to enquiries@steenbergs.co.uk.
