Myrrh Resin

Steenbergs Myrrh is best known as being one of the three gifts from the Wise men to Jesus and Gold , Frankincense and Myrrh have become an intrinsic part of the Christmas story.  It was used as a medicine in the time of Solomon and is still used in the Middle East and China - myrrh is especually used as an astringent tonic, to dress wounds and sore lips and goes into some toothpastes and liniments, as well as in making incense and perfume.

Steenbergs Myrrh is a pleasant smelling gum-resin with a sharp, bitter and aromatic taste.  The myrrh tree - Commiphora myrrha - from the bark of which it exudes in oily drops of reddish-yellow colour, is a kind of balsam, a small scrubby shrb, with green flowers and very little foliage, growing in Arabia, Persia, Ethipia and Africa.  The best myrrh comes from Somalia.
