Legend has it that, around 250AD, a Taoist priest affirmed that there must be a dragon lurking in a spiring not far from Hangzhou. At this time farmers had long been praying for rain, so the Taoist priest implored the well dragon to come to their rescue. Instantly, clouds came rushing in from each side and rain arrived just in time. For this reason, an old temple near the spring is called Dragon's Well Monastery and hence the name for this very modern and healthy organic green tea. Organic Dragon's Well green tea is traditionally grown on several peaks of the T'ieh Mu mountain range near Hangzhou's beautiful West Lake in Zhejiang Province. The organic tea leaves are traditionally plucked before the Clear Light Festival before the spring rains have fallen, producing a delicately flavoured organic green tea.
Steenbergs loose leaf organic Long Jing green tea (also Lung Ching) has a wonderful jade colour and a mellow, an orchid-like aroma and a semi-sweet flavour with only the slightest hint of astringency. The organic green tea leaves are small and full of fine tips that unfold easily in warm water. Organic green teas are naturally low in caffeine and contain polyphenols which are valued for their antioxidant properties.
Ingredients: organic green Long Jing - Lung Ching - tea from China
Brewing tips: Use a warmed tea-pot and put 1 teaspoons of organic Long Jing tea leaves into the pot, add freshly boiled water that has cooled to warm, then leave to infuse for 3 minutes.
