Steenbergs Organic Black Tea from South India is a high grown tea from the POABS Estates in Kerala. We have loved POABS teas and spices ever since I first visited their idyllic estates back in 2005, perched on top of a cliff in Nelliyampathy. The clean air in the hilltops and from the sea, plus the enthusiastic use of biodynamic organic principles using Steiner's famed herbal mixes and the manure from 300 cows on site creates a fantastic clean tea without any bitterness. The ethical principles of the owners is also unimpeachable with their teas registered as Fairtrade, even though (as a plantation) their spices and coffees fall outside the scop of Fairtrade. This is a great tea, which is very different from the malty strength of Assam or the muscatel delights of Darjeeling.
Brewing Tip: one teaspoon per mug or person. Add freshly drawn, boiling water, steep for 4 - 5 minutes according to taste.
