Organic Black Venus Rice 500g Seggiano details and description

Seggiano's organic Black Venus Rice is an organic wholegrain black rice from Italy from Gli Aironi - specialist rice growers. Gli Aironi Italian rices have been appreciated and praised by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal. This is a great variety of interesting rice for those who like to try something different.

Black Venus Rice is a delicious new black wholegrain rice, developed from a strain that was originally exclusive to the Chinese imperial family. Wonderful with seafood, it has a gorgeous creamy flavour and a deep purple colour when cooked.

The Grange Vercellesi area is well known as the heart of the European rice production. The Perionotti family lives in the midst of this historic rice-producing landscape, where they have farmed for five generations. Michele Perionotti is a passionate rice producer and connoisseur, whose family have grown rice on their 130 hectare farm, in the Vercelli region of the Po valley. Gli Aironi is named after the wild storks which live in the Vercelli rice fields.

Michele promotes indigenous rice varieties from poorer countries and works with rice growers in Madagascar to develop efficient production methods with low environmental impact.

The perfection of Gli Aironi rice starts with the traditional stone husking, which guarantees the lightest shelling, thus keeping the nutrients contained in the outermost layer of each grain intact. These nutrients are critical to the taste and texture of the cooked rice. Once husked, the rice grains are meticulously graded according to colour, quality and size. Vacuum packaging guarantee the highest quality product.

Serving suggestion: Boil for 35-40 minutes in salted water (1 litre for 200g of rice) and then strain. Stir in the rice with a vegetable sauce - made with onion, tomatoes, aubergines, carrots and courgettes - then add a touch of extra virgin olive oil.

Also delicious in stir frys (pre boil the rice) together with your favourite seasonings.

Wonderful with seafood.
