The Ambootia Tea Estate is in Darjeeling and sits in the foothills of the Himalayas, 400 miles due north of Calcutta, close to Nepal and Bhutan. At 6500 feet, the climate is temperate, but rainy, and you can see the scorching plains down below and the mighty Kanchenjunga almost as high as Everest. Ambootia grows Steenbergs organic Fairtrade green Darjeeling tea using organic farming practices, following the holistic and herbal approach of Bio-Dynamic principles. A small, but growing, amount of organic Darjeeling tea production is being processed as organic Fairtrade green tea - Steenbergs is loose leaf.
Besides being a healthy drink, Steenbergs Darjeeling organic Fairtrade green tea has a different flavour to traditional Chinese & Japanese green teas. Our Ambootia organic Fairtrade green tea produces an amber cup with a distinctive green tea flavour but hinting of that classic muscatel flavour of Darjeeling. Organic green teas are naturally low in caffeine and contain polyphenols which are valued for their antioxidant properties. For more detail on the health properties of tea, please go to
. This organic green tea is also Fairtrade, including a premium for uncompromising social welfare on the tea estate for the 4,500 people on the Ambootia Tea Estate which lies in Darjeeling.
